This page shows seven US baby name clusters trained with a statistical topic model from state/year name counts from the Social Security Adminstration. The model represents the names used in each state-year as a combination of these clusters. The maps show state-level cluster proportions; the gray region below each map shows overall cluster popularity. Drag the gray bar to show changes over time. The top 50 names for each cluster are shown on the right, in descending order by popularity within the cluster. Names that are more distinctive for the cluster are shown in darker text: for example "Michael" appears in many clusters while "Jayden" appears in one.
